Hello, my name is Una and I live in Bavaria, Upper Franconia. Since January 2021, I have been showing my me-made outfits on Instagram (@unasewing2021). My passion is colours, so I like to focus on seasonal colours and make some unusual colour combinations with my me-made outfits.

How long have you been sewing?

I started sewing clothes for Barbie dolls as a child on my grandmother's old treadle sewing machine. I took my first sewing course when I was 13 and after that, I made clothes for myself regularly. When corona broke out, after a 15-year creative break, I made masks every day and so I rediscovered the joy of sewing during this special time.

Why are you a fan of Fibre Mood?

I love Fibre Mood because the patterns are always up-to-date and have special details. Also, the sewing instructions are very clearly illustrated and the numerous inspirational photos on the Fibre Mood website, link parties and Instagram are hugely valuable to me. I can see how different Sewistas have created the patterns so I get a good impression of how the garments will turn out in the end.

Can you tell us a bit more about your Vinny hack?

The Vinny pattern immediately appealed to me because of its contemporary shape and the wide sleeves, pleats at the cuffs and nice collar shape. I had had the idea of an elongated bomber jacket in my head for a while, as they are totally in right now. So, I decided to hack this pattern. I chose a quilted fabric because it is particularly suitable for a jacket like this in autumn, and I especially like the bold colour of this fabric.

What changes have you made?

I made two major changes to the Vinny bomber:

  • I extended the front and back panels by 30 cm. I finished the hem in the same way as the Dunya pattern of edition 25: rounding off at the side seam and adding a slit.
  • For the facing, I took the shape of the pattern with the curve and stitched it together. I lowered the flaps of the pocket and rotated them about 45 degrees.
  • Then I worked exactly as instructed.

What do you love about pattern hacks?

I often have an image of an outfit in my head that can be perfectly created based on a small adjustment for a better fit. I get my inspiration mainly from the great fashion designers and most of my alterations are done by changing the length, changing the neckline or moving the zip or closure.

Do you have any golden tips for beginners for this pattern or other projects?

My tip for beginners is to follow the instructions, read them carefully and follow the illustrations exactly.

Are there any other Fibre Mood projects in the pipeline?

I am already looking forward to the next issue of Fibre Mood and am excited about the new patterns!
