Today we meet Simone and her Honey-hack...

SIMONE

Hi! I'm Simone, 41 years old and live in Zurich with my husband and two boys. My Instagram name consists of my first, middle and surname (@simoneandreamueller), there I wasn't quite as creative... ;-)

When and why did you start sewing?
The classic story ... when I was pregnant with my first son, I sewed a pair of bloomers, a baby mobile with little animals and a utensil. Once the baby was born, sewing took a back seat. It wasn't until shortly before the pandemic that I really got into it. But I have always been creative and enjoy working with my hands.

BLOGGING

When did you start sharing your creations on Instagram and why did you start?
I put my first post on Instagram in October 2020. But I had already been inspired a lot on the platform before that, so I wanted to "give something back" creatively. In the meantime, it has become my very personal, beautiful sewing diary. The sewing community and the exchange with each other is really enriching.

FIBRE MOOD

What do you like most about sewing with Fibre Mood patterns?
The Fibre Mood patterns include trendy cuts, but also many essential basics that are great for making outfits. I now know the patterns and their structure very well and know where I want to make changes for my body shape. This means I can usually guarantee that the sewn piece will fit right from the start.

SEWING & HACKING

Why did you choose the Honey pattern?
Honey had been on my list for a long time. I particularly like the collar with the flounces. I got the inspiration to sew the blouse as a dress from Instagram. But then I created my own personal hack.

What changes have you made?
I smocked the sleeve ends, which means that I rolled an elasticated thread onto the bobbin thread to create this great effect when sewing. I shortened the top slightly and added elastic to the waist. The skirt is the bottom part of the Marion pattern, also from Fibre Mood.

Do you often make pattern hacks? What do you like about them?
Every now and then. Often these are simply small adjustments or changes.

Which creation are you most proud of?
I can't say that...I have several items of clothing that are very close to my heart. Sometimes it's the more elaborate pieces, such as a coat or jacket, sometimes it's a simple sweatshirt that I wear up and down. I am particularly proud of the fact that I taught myself how to sew and that my wardrobe now consists of many pieces I have sewn myself.

Do you have any golden tips for beginners on this pattern or other projects?
In general, my tip is to read the patterns very carefully. Some of them are well illustrated, which makes the sewing process a little easier. Use lots of pins to secure and don't forget to press...
