You see them everywhere this season: the open blouses with cute bows, and sewistas are also eagerly participating in the trend of the moment. We meet Kamilla and she tells us how she got to work on her version of this trending winner.

KAMILLA

Hi! My name is KamillaCospen (@kamillacospen) and I'm an English teacher as well as a DIY and sewing addict.

When and why did you start sewing?
When I received my first sewing machine as a birthday gift back in summer 2017. Since my teenage years, I always liked to scroll pattern magazines telling myself that one day, I will make something like that with my own hands.

BLOGGING

How did you get the idea to share your creations?
I have been sharing my creations(DIYs, not just sewing) since ages! Even before Instagram was invented! Back then itwas through my personal blog.

Since when have you been sharing your creations on Instagram?
Not so long agoactually… since 2018, to be precise. It was a post about my first bow tie cardigan from@Ilikedressme. It wasn’t my first sewing project but definitely not the easiest one, as itwas my first experience of working with stretch/jersey fabrics.

What was your most popular IG post?
When I had sewn #FibreMoodDanika jumpsuit from Book 10 in September 2020. I used this colourful fabric from @Ikea and had so much fun while shooting it in the old town of Chambery and received loads of compliments from passersby.

FIBRE MOOD

Why are you a fan of Fibre Mood?
Because thanks to Fibre Mood, I’m a part of this engaging community of creative & fun sewistas.

What do you like most about sewing with Fibre Mood patterns?
Linkparties! They are inspirational and give me that much needed “kick” to create more often!

What is your most worn Fibre Mood creation?
My comfy Babette pants and Irma waistcoat that always keeps me warm!

Do you have a favourite Fibre Mood pattern/edition?
Edition 23 with Vivienne, Ruba, Quilla, Maeve, ... they all seem gorgeous and I need them in my wardrobe!

Are there any Fibre Mood sewing projects in the pipeline
VIVIENNE - probably one of the trendiest pieces of this spring/summer season! It has been a while since I had my eye on this pattern, I think it’s about time I sew it, just need to find the right fabric, and Fanny Pack hands-free bag.

NYLA HACK

Why did you choose the Nyla pattern?
Because of it’s elegant back and my favourite bishop type sleeves with a gentle touch of puff.

How did you come up with the idea?
Well the knots & bows seem to be back in fashion recently. Plus I wanted to add a little “spice” in this piece and switch the back with the front. And then I bumped into a cute shirt with 3 front ties on Pinterest, and so I took it as a sign from above! :)

What modifications did you make? How did you proceed?
As I mentioned earlier, I chose to make a top version of Nyla.

  • Firstly, I switched the back with the front, and since the space between 2 front pieces was a bit too wide, I have added 3 cm to each front piece.
  • Then I shortened the neckline bias,as the idea was to replace it with three other knots in front.
  • I also decided to shorten the sleeves length by 10 cm, to make them look more like bracelet sleeves or what they also call a three-quarter inch sleeve.
  • And finally I cut 6 ribbons in total (length 30 cm, width 2 cm), 3 for each side of the front pieces to sew them along the front pieces to be able to tie my shirt in front.

Do you make pattern hacks more often? What do you love about them?
This is basically my first hacked pattern piece. Before I used to mostly “play” with different types of fabrics.

I'M MOST PROUD OF...

My Nyla dress, that I made in tulle fabric. It was the first time I had worked with this gentle fabric. It was easier than I thought, and now I have this urge to make more things with this type of fabric!

MY GOLDEN TIP...

Do not forget to mark all the notches and use painter’s tape or small stickers to tag the front and the back if you are using tulle or any transparent fabric.

Also feeling like getting started with the Nyla pattern? You can buy it here! Be sure to share your creation via 'your creations' on the website or on Instagram with the hashtag #FibreMoodNyla.
