Christine went to work with the Bernie and Nina pattern to create a trendy and quirky jumpsuit. She opted for a summery one, but with the right choice of fabric and following this simple hack you’ll have an ideal winter jumpsuit ready in no time! Christine tells us a bit more about herself and her hack in this interview.
Who are you?
Hi, I'm Christine and I'm from Bavaria, southern Germany. You can find me on Instagram under the name @pfeiffer2742. I started an Instagram account to enter a sewing competition and, being a complete Instanewbie, I just made a combination of my name and some numbers. If I had known I would be sewing so much, I would have thought of something else. Maybe it's time to go for a catchier name after all... ????
How long have you been sewing?
I started sewing my dolls when I was about 10 years old. I was working with an old sewing machine with a treadle then. Slowly I got the hang of it, and I learnt a lot from my mistakes. As I got older, the projects grew with me and for a while, I did a lot of sewing. After a long break, I started sewing intensively again during Covid times and I am very happy to have rediscovered this wonderful hobby.
Why did you start sewing?
Good question! My mother used to sew too, so of course I wanted to try that too. I enjoy using my creativity and sewing clothes that not everyone has. Blessed to make something with my own hands.
Why are you a fan of Fibre Mood?
I got to know Fibre Mood through a sewing friend. The patterns are always that touch more special with clever details and not always ordinary. I love that.
Why did you choose to hack the Nina pattern?
For me, it was love at first sight with Nina and the sleeves in particular caught my eye.
How did you come up with this idea?
When I was sewing a test top to see if the size would fit well, the idea suddenly came to me. Besides, I really like wearing trousers and jumpsuits, so then I decided to add Nina to Bernie and make a jumpsuit!
What all have you changed?
For the trouser part, I removed the pleats from the Bernie pattern. This sits really well at the waist and so does Nina's top piece. I extended the bodice by about 8 cm and that's basically it. So a simple, but super cool hack.
Do you often make pattern hacks? What do you love about them?
Indeed, I often do. I usually come up with spontaneous ideas for certain modifications when I am sewing. I like to be completely creative and create a unique piece. But it is always a bit exciting to see whether it works out as planned. Sometimes you have to improvise a bit, but it usually works out!
Do you have any golden tips for beginners regarding this pattern or other projects?
Grab your chance and if you don't want to use the good fabric right away, old bedding or cheap cotton fabric is a great test fabric. I sometimes even use such test pieces as pyjamas or nightgowns if they fit well! ????
Are you planning any more sewing projects from Fibre Mood?
Absolutely! A Nousha bag in a slightly larger size. I've also been eyeing Trix and Nikka for a while.... and a Harper top is also a must. And then, of course, there are always the new editions of Fibre Mood.... I'm sure there will be plenty of new inspiration. ☺️
