Hello!
My name is Nati and on Instagram you can find me by my nickname @momita_costura. I'm 43 years old and I live in Valencia, Spain, in a very beautiful city which I love for its light and sun almost all year round.
I learnt to sew when I was a child; a neighbour had a sewing studio and every afternoon I used to go to her atelier to sew with her.
At the age of 15, I was no longer satisfied with the few fabrics I could find in the shops in my town, and they were too expensive for a teenager. So I started to take apart garments from friends and to buy in second-hand shops garments that I liked just for the fabric, and that's how my first transformations began. Sometimes I would transform the garment, and other times I would rip the whole garment apart to make something new with the fabric.
I started to learn how to sew by unpicking seams and opening the linings of old coats to see how they were sewn inside. You can't imagine my astonished face the first time I saw and unpicked an invisible zip, besides they were not sold in haberdasheries yet, they were only seen in factory garments... Today, thanks to the internet, I can find anywhere in the world my dream fabric, materials or just talk to someone on the other side of the ocean about this great hobby.
I really enjoy getting the best out of a pattern and the best out of the fabric, even if I have to make a transformation. So I will continue to make many hacks, actually I have one on my desk right now.
Today I want to show you the one I made with the Clemence Sweatshirt. I love the sleeves, but I wanted a more fitted and warmer garment for the nice Polytex knit I had.
This is my hack of the Clemence sweatshirt.
Front and back
I closed the neckline 3,5 at the shoulder and raised the centre front by 4 cm and the centre back by 2 cm.
Collar
I then transformed the neck pattern to make a turtleneck.
To make the collar I measured the neckline of the front and back. I multiplied that measurement by 0.8 to reduce the neckline measurement, that will be the measurement we will have for the length of the strip by 15 cm. high. In the middle of the strip you have to tuck 1,5 cm on each side to give shape, and also to take off 0,50 cm at the top and bottom.
Sleeve
I made it narrower so it would be closer to the body.
Hope you like it!
