Hey, I'm Kata! My home has been a small town near Stuttgart for 20 years. But I am a native Hungarian with many creative ideas.
Tell us about yourself, what is the name of your blog or Instagram?
I started my Insta account in 2020 under the name Kat@Lin (kat_at_lin). The name is a play on words with my first name: Katalin. It's all about sewing, although I generally like to craft and make many things myself.
How long have you been sewing?
Phew, good question. That's exactly what I discussing with my mother the other day. I was firmly convinced that I have sewn for about 16 years, since my children were born. However, my mum told a completely different story. She said that since I was a little kid, I was very involved with fabrics and clothes. I regularly raided her wardrobe, cut up her clothes, altered them and then put them back in the wardrobe. Often she was totally distraught when she wanted to wear something I had already cut up. Apparently my excuse was that she didn't wear them anyway. Of course not, because they were kept for special occasions. Poor mum! I still like to upcycle, but now I do it more thoughtfully.
Why are you a fan of Fibre Mood?
One of my first Fibre Mood patterns was Mindy and I was totally hooked. Not only because I found the dress fashionable, but also the magazine appealed to me immediately. It is clear and well-explained. Thanks to Fibre Mood I have learned a lot and improved my sewing skills. There is definitely something for everyone.
Why did you choose the Lucca pattern?
I decided on Lucca as soon as I saw the patterns for this edition. I knew immediately that it was my cut. I love ruffles! Since I rarely wear swimming costumes, but almost always dresses, the idea of the dress came to me. I had also considered sewing a bodysuit, but in the end I found the dress hack more practical.
What adjustments have you made?
With Lucca, everything somehow fit immediately, and the alterations were also very easy to do. I only the top of Lucca until the waistline. Then I cut out a skirt in an A-line shape and sewed it together with the top. Of course, the pockets should not be missing either.
Do you have any golden tips for beginners when sewing Lucca (or other projects?)
Tip: With this pattern, it is helpful to be especially careful when measuring and cutting the pieces to achieve the best result. Otherwise, just experiment and have fun sewing!
Do you often do pattern hacks? What do you like about them?
I love doing pattern hacks. I like to use patterns that I have sewn before and that fit well. I love to change the cuts, experiment and add my own style by tweaking a few things. There are so many possibilities.
Where do you get inspiration?
I like to browse the internet a lot and get inspired there. Sometimes I have to find the right fabric first, but sometimes I see a fabric and immediately know what I'm going to sew with it.
Are you planning more sewing projects with Fibre Mood?
More projects are already planned. The other day I tried on a great blouse that I really want to sew. My basis for it is the Victoria top. All I need is the right fabric ;-)
