About the store

My love for sewing began at ten when I swapped cleaning in a fabric shop for creating designs and I never looked back. I’ve worked at Stof & Sy since 1985 and proudly became the owner in 2006. We cherish real connections with our customers, offering personal advice and quality fabrics inspired by trends and trade fairs. From lakes and woods nearby to our friendly “ping pong” spirit, Stof & Sy is a true sewista’s haven. My dream? To inspire all of Denmark to sew and maybe even live on national TV one day!

Interview

1. Where does your love for sewing come from, or the idea to turn it into a profession?

Its an old love. When I was 10 years old I started cleaning in a fabric store, but didn’t like cleaning and was fascinated by all the fabrics and started sewing models for the store instead of cleaning.

2. How long have you been running your shop?

I have worked in Stof & Sy since 1985, for the previous owners and bought the store in 2006.

3. Why should a Sewista buy fabrics "offline" instead of "online"?

At Stof & Sy we love the everyday contact and “ping pong” with the customers and try to put the same energy into the webshop

4. How important is personal contact with your customers?

At Stof & Sy we provide personal and technical guidance to our sewistas and help them choose the right colors and fabrics for their projects. We make sure we only have fabrics of high quality and trends.

5. Where do you find inspiration for new fabrics and patterns?

We participate in different fairs and our favorite is H+H in Cologne

6. Are there any hotspots near your shop that might interest our Sewistas?

The Hotspots around Stof & Sy is the beautiful nature with the lakes and the wood right next to us.

7. What was the first pattern you ever sewed?

Perhaps it wasn’t the first, but I made a dress for my high school graduation and couldn’t find any boning for my corsage so had to be creative and ended up using a plastic bucket as boning.

8. Have you noticed the revival of the trend for self-made fashion?

With the Covid Pandemic we met a great deal of new sewistas.

9. Do many young Sewistas count among your customers?

At Stof & Sy we meet a great deal of sewistas and we love when they share their projects and pattern hacks.

10. Which Sewista do you admire (e.g., your mother, grandmother, a blogger)?

At Stof & Sy we welcome all.

11. What is your ultimate dream (regarding your shop, or something you’ve always wanted to do)?

I would to be a part of the national morning TV show and be their sewing expert – and get Denmark sewing.

12. What is your favorite pattern from Fibre Mood?

My favourite Fibre Mood pattern is Betty from FM 16. I’ve made several hacks.

13. What is your favorite fabric from Fibre Mood?

My favourite fabric is the blue corduroy for Betty pants from FM 16.

14. Which pattern would you recommend to a beginner Sewista?

Gina from FM 27 is good beginners project.

15. Which pattern is perfect for a Sewista looking for a challenge?

Vivienne from FM 23 is great challenge and we’ve made a “How to video” for the lining on aóur Youtube channel.
