About the store

I’m Lara, and since 2012 I’ve been running 100Stoff in Berlin’s Kreuzberg district. Before that, I trained as an architect, which still influences how I think about clothes and fabrics today. I love clothing that’s comfortable, easy to wear, and still looks good. Especially when it comes to everyday pieces, I believe quality really matters—you can feel it, and you end up wearing those garments again and again. A good pattern and the right fabric can make all the difference. What I enjoy most is seeing how one pattern can turn into something completely different depending on the fabric. That’s why I carefully select fabrics for 100Stoff that are pleasant to work with, durable over time, and suitable for many different styles. For me, fabrics should fit naturally into everyday life, be enjoyable to sew, and give you the freedom to create something that truly feels like you.

Interview

1. Where does your love for sewing come from or the idea of making it your job?
I’ve basically always sewn — since I was around 14. I love beautiful materials and processes where I can create and produce something myself.

2. How long have you had your store?
My physical store opened in 2012, and the online shop in 2015.

3. How important is personal contact with your customers?
I love connecting with customers. I share the same passion with most of them — you can feel it instantly. They usually leave even happier than they arrived.

4. What’s the advantage of having a physical store?
You can touch and feel the fabric — a huge advantage. We try hard to give that same experience online with detailed photos, descriptions, and live Instagram Stories. Customers can call or email us anytime. Many know me personally and trust my advice.

5. What can sewistas expect in your shop?
You can lay out and combine fabrics, test them in front of a mirror, and get in-depth advice on both fabrics and patterns.

6. Where do you find inspiration for new fabrics and patterns?
Everywhere — especially social media, magazines, and trade shows.

7. Any sewista hotspots near your shop?
We’re in Berlin Kreuzberg. Just 100 meters away is a large market hall with one of the city’s best cheese counters, great coffee, its own brewery, a top bakery — well worth the visit!

8. What was the first pattern you ever sewed?
I vaguely remember a pajama with buttons, collar, and piping — not sure though!

9. Do you notice a revival in DIY fashion?
Absolutely. Especially in adult fashion and among younger people. They love it!

10. Do you have many young sewistas?
Yes — from all ages, from very young up into their 70s or even 80s.

11. Which sewistas do you admire?
All of them. I admire people who dare to create something themselves and are creative in their own way. There are so many different approaches and outcomes — and they all deserve respect.

12. What’s your ultimate dream?
Sometimes I dream of throwing a big party where everyone wears handmade clothes from my shop’s fabrics. That would be hilarious and amazing!

13. Favorite Fibre Mood pattern?

14. Favorite Fibre Mood fabric?
Natural fabrics are my favorite. I don’t like working with synthetics.

15. What pattern do you recommend for beginners?
Don’t aim too high. Choose an easy, loose-fitting design with easy-to-handle fabric. Like #suri from Fibre Mood #13.

16. What pattern is great for a challenge?
Pants! They’re hard — but if they fit well, it’s pure gold. Like #babette from Fibre Mood #13.

17. Your golden tip for sewistas?
Sew accurately — but don’t forget to enjoy the process!
