The trenchcoat is a classic item of clothing that’s never really gone out of fashion. It is the perfect coat to wear on rainy days and you can use the belt to accentuate your waist. Wrap it up! But do you know where this type of jacket comes from?

A lesson in history

The trenchcoat has been around for more than a century. It originated during World War I. Military personnel stored their belongings in all the pockets or hung them on one of the flaps. Also suspended from the belt were their weapons, among other things. The lengths varied. The coats were knee or calve length. The colour of the trenchcoat? Khaki or beige, which served as camouflage.

Once the war was over, soldiers returned home with their handy trenchcoats. They continued to wear it and so the trench coat became an established sight in the streets. It did not take long for women to show interest in this model of coat.

Experiment with the colour and fabric choice. Because you certainly do not have to make this coat in the traditional beige colour. How about white? Or pink? The choice is yours! For best results, opt for a stiffer fabric. Think gabardine, twill cotton, nylon or denim. Either way, you will be enjoying wearing this historic classic for years to come. You can do this!
