Dahlia, what's not to love? Shorts to face the summer and warm days, just what we need! As with any other sewing project, your choice of fabric also determines a big part of the final look of your creation. We would like to give you some inspiration and suggestions around the ideal fabrics for the Dahlia shorts ????

Structured fabrics:
To do full justice to Dahlia, fabrics with some body that hold form are ideal. Think twill, denim, linen or woven jacquard fabrics. With these fabrics you can really show off all the details of Dahlia - the pleats and cuffs will keep their volume nicely.
Suggestion: paper touch cotton, twill, linen, woven jacquard, denim....
Leave for another project: heavy canvas, this is possibly too much of a good thing.

Smooth fabrics:
Are you not a fan of structured fabrics and prefer something smoother? This is certainly possible, although we recommend dropping the cuffs as they won’t keep their shape. Would you still like to keep some definition on the hems? Then we recommend stabilising the hem and you could even topstitch it. If you choose finer fabrics, you will find that the pleats will come through nicely and the shorts as a whole will look more “refined”.
Suggestion: crepe (satin), light jacquard, viscose....
Leave for another project: voile and chiffon-like fabrics, we think these are a bit too lightweight for shorts.
Something else …
Do you like to go for something different? Then how about a (faux-) leather or suede? Perhaps less ideal for warmer days, but totally on trend for wearing shorts or even extending the legs in winter. Be sure to use the right needle here. In this case, you can work with or without cuff depending on the look you want to create.
