With Special n°3 magazine, you have endless inspiration and options to put together your capsule wardrobe. But the essential thing about a capsule wardrobe is that the pieces stand the test of time and go together seamlessly to make different mix and match outfits. So, extra important to look carefully for quality fabrics that take styles to the next level. ????

Tip before you get started: think carefully beforehand about how you want your final garment to look and therefore what type of fabric you need for it. Consider, for example, the difference between a heavy cotton and a supple crepe, both of which produce totally different results with the same pattern (Kenza & Odyna).????

But what are the must-have fabrics for your capsule items?

1. Jersey

For a classic T-shirt, you need a quality jersey fabric. A white basic is always at the top of our list, but we’d also like to have them in all colours of the rainbow! Opt for airy compositions that feel soft on the skin - after all, a T-shirt is there for comfort. Think soft bamboo, organic cotton or linen for summer.

2. Denim

A good denim cannot be missed, again there are different types that drape and feel different. Would you like extra comfort? Then choose one with some stretch, especially in the case of trousers.

3. Shirting

Blouses, shirt dresses, tops... you can make them in so many fabrics. But don't forget the classic shirting fabrics. These too come in different varieties, with differences in weight, suppleness, drape, colour, weave etc. For patterns with fine details (such as gathers), you can opt for a fine and supple poplin in fresh colours. Does your model call for a bit more structure? Then a heavier variant can give a nice result there. (Patterns in the photos: Odyna & Phyllis) ????

4. Solid colours vs. Print

For the ultimate timeless items, you won’t go wrong with solid neutral colours that look good with many other colours. There are many solid fabrics that stand out because of their texture, structure or weave pattern, which often give your simple items an interesting and innovative twist. Do you like to vary or brighten things up with a print? Then stripes and checks are always classic and will never go out of style.

5. Statement pieces

Of course, you can finish your capsule wardrobe with some classic statement pieces - simply choose a different fabric! Here’s an example of combine a classic pinstripe with a beautiful jacquard like Miek did with her Joni
