I associate autumn with the wonderful book Autumn by Ali Smith. And with raincoats. Because from now on, we can at least expect the weather to become a little more unpredictable again. It’s the hope that kills us: it – will – rain.

And if it has to rain, we might as well face it in style. I love long raincoats that you can literally throw over anything, with all the signature details of the classic trench coat: a large collar (I went for two), a roomy raglan sleeve, shoulder and sleeve pads, a double-breasted front, a belt to cinch in or leave loose and… checks. Lots of checks.

Underneath, I want to keep things comfortable. No complicated outfits or endless overthinking about what I am wearing at this or that meeting, dinner or reading table. Just clothes that do what they’re supposed to do and get me through the day effortlessly.
