Did you know Fibre Mood is about more than just sewing patterns? It’s a fact! We’ve got something for everyone with crafty fingers. Today the spotlight is on crochet and macramé techniques.
Where do these techniques come from?
Macramé has been around since the 13th century, back when Arab weavers would cleverly magic fabric scraps into beautiful decorations. The term itself likely stems from the Arabic word ‘migramah’, which refers to all things woven.
But the origins of crochet? Those are trickier to trace. The countries responsible could include China, Peru, Ireland, England, and possibly more! What we do know, however, is that the first crochet tutorial appeared in the Netherlands in the 1820s – in Penelope magazine.
