This summer, I became a grandmother for the first time. My new name is Baba, her name is Kaia, and pure wonder flows through my veins as I spend endless hours looking at her, breathing in her scent, listening to her, and holding her close. Having such a perfect little being in the family brings back those first weeks with your own baby, but without the stress and responsibility. I’m here to spoil her, not to raise her. It’s a wonderful role.

As soon as the pregnancy was announced, my ‘nesting instinct’ immediately kicked in. Before long, I was sewing cute little blankets, towels and sleeping bags, ready to welcome her into our warm cocoon.

If I may share a few tips:

- Think about how the garment can grow with your little one, because at that age, they grow incredibly fast and you want to enjoy your beautiful work for a little longer. A longer jacket can later become a shirt, a pair of roomy trousers can still be worn as shorts in spring, or an oversized sweater can become a vest if you remove the sleeves when they become too short.

- Choose comfort: soft, breathable, natural, and preferably eco-friendly fabrics. During their first months, babies mainly sleep and lie down, and they are still less able to regulate their body temperature themselves. Choosing a fabric such as organic cotton can help keep them comfortable.
