I am Raquel, 38 years old and originally Portuguese, but I currently live in Palma de Mallorca in Spain. You can see my creations and follow me on Instagram (@raquelinchii)!
How long have you been sewing?
In March 2018, we adopted our dog Matilda and I bought my very first sewing machine to sew mainly doggy things. Little by little, I eventually started sewing my own clothes and for the last 3 years I have stopped buying clothes completely.
What do you like best about sewing with Fibre Mood patterns?
I love that Fibre Mood always follows fashion trends and even dares to go a step further by occasionally releasing bolder and elaborate patterns.
How would you convince people to start sewing?
Sewing is a blissful hobby that really allows you to escape the daily grind for a while. Besides, there is no better place to let your imagination run wild than behind a sewing machine, and that is what appeals to me so much.
What annoys you most behind your sewing machine?
What I hate most is unpicking .... But for perfection, you have to do it.
What is your favourite Fibre Mood pattern?
My favourite pattern is the Carry shirt, because I love oversized shirts! Clement is also no stranger to me, as that isthe pattern I sew the most for my boyfriend, he doesn't even want another shirt. Besides that, I am also a big fan of the Elisa shirt, Giselle coat, Madou jacket, Jo jumper, Gabriela vest and Molly jacket.
What does your sewing studio look like?
I have a table for cutting fabric, a table with my sewing machine and overlocker and a cupboard for all my fabrics. Then I also added a shelf on which I put all my patterns. Last but not least: a mannequin with which I mainly take cute photos with my dog Matilda when I make a matching outfit for her. Curious? Hashtag #matchingmatilda is the place to go.
Do you sometimes make hacks?
I am not very daring in that regard, in the sense that I usually only dare to remove sleeves or collars and occasionally play around with the length of garments. But I do make little changes like this regularly, take a look:
Where do you find inspiration?
I like to walk around the shops to see what is trendy and then I can recreate it with the patterns I have. I also lookfor a lot of inspiration on Instagram and in magazines.
Are there any sewing projects from Fibre Mood coming up?
I've been wanting to make my Giselle coat since last winter and create a short version, so that will be my next project!
