Hi, Goublomme here, better known as Laure. I don't remember exactly where the name Goudblomme comes from, but it does have a link to who I am. In day-to-day life, I am a landscaper, a job in which I can make full use of my love for flowers! Blomme (=Dutch for bloom) is therefore a reference to flowers. And the gold? I suspect that comes from my blonde hair.

When did your love of sewing begin?

Then we have to go back in time. In 2019, Helene (@destoffenkamer) posted a skirt and I instantly fell in love! A friend then told me she would help me make it myself and so said, so done!

Later, I was sitting at home with burnout and to combat idleness, on a whim I drove to the nearest sewing machine shop, bought a Fibre Mood and made the Lauren top. The rest is history. ????

How would you convince people to start sewing?

Creating something tangible that you can also be proud of is very addictive for me. You can also enjoy your creations for a very long time, because a garment has no expiry date.

What annoys you most behind your sewing machine?

Behind the sewing machine itself, I never actually get annoyed, but redrawing and adjusting a pattern takes forever. Not to mention cutting the pattern pieces from the fabric!

Which is your favourite fibre mood pattern?

In every magazine, I have a top favourite that I immediately go with. But my absolute feel-good outfit is the Selah trousers and Oriana blouse. These barely see the wardrobe!

What adjustments do you make to fibre mood patterns?

You might have noticed, but I am plus size, and I literally and figuratively can't hide that under any falsehood (nor do I want to!) ????

I do have the luxury of perfect sizing in the size chart. On top, I have to make little to no adjustments, but trouser patterns are usually not a perfect out of the packet sizing for me, though the Babette comes close!

What does your sewing studio look like?

What was originally a desk for my friend soon resulted in 2 spacious desk tables for my sewing machine and overlock, some Ikea cabinets with fabrics, haberdashery and patterns, mood board and a large mirrored door. Fabric I easily cut at our kitchen island. And that ironing board that's always there? That's not because I like to ????

Are any fibre mood sewing projects planned?

I still want to work on Tanita in a nice double gauze fabric, and I also have my sights set on a Maeve skirt. I also recently found an unfinished Sienna project. I might have finished them by the time you read this! ????

Do you have any golden tips for beginning sewistas?

Don't be too hard on yourself! And measure, measure, measure. (Re)measuring patterns and comparing with your own measurements is the best basis, although Fibre Mood helps you along the way here by including finished garment sizes. So handy!

Anything else you want to say to the fibre mood team?

Thanks for developing contemporary and sometimes challenging patterns that are also for my size!

Thank you for making me feel beautiful! I finally found my niché and my self-esteem grew. I met amazing seamstresses, discovered that the sewing world is a beautiful one where everyone is willing to help, but also that it is a very open and friendly environment without negativity. I don't feel judged for my size more, quite the contrary.

But most of all, thank you for the highlight of my "sewing career"! Getting to model in the very first Close Up video for edition 20 was simply empowering!
