Creative greetings from Canada! I’m Jenn. You can find my makes on Instagram @jenndumon.
When did you learn to sew?
I learned to sew in high school - it was an amazing three year program. I had a wonderful teacher who was passionate about garment making. I loved it so much I thought about pursuing fashion design at university, but decided to study Fine Arts instead. Since then sewing has become an important part of my day. It’s my time to relax and create something special.

Has the sewing world change since you’ve started sewing?
Yes, very much! Social media has changed the sewing community. Now everyone has access to information, products, latest trends, etc. from all over the world. I love the fact that I can be inspired by someone living in another country, and that my creativity isn’t limited and extends beyond my sewing space!
Is that why you like Fibre Mood patterns?
For sure! Fibremood magazine has done a fantastic job reaching a global audience. The magazine and website are full of inspiration and trend setting designs! I am a big fan of their downloadable pdf patterns that include seam allowances and English instructions. Their designs are well drafted - I haven’t made many modifications to the patterns.
What are a few of your favourite patterns from Fibre Mood?
The Augusta dress and top from the latest issue is beautiful! I made a shirt version which is very comfortable and fun to wear. I plan to make the dress version next - it would be wonderful for summer.
This spring I made the Vivienne vest in a fabulous houndstooth wool fabric. I can’t wait to wear it this autumn when the weather is cooler.
Some of my other favourite Fibre Mood designs are the Molly and Madou jackets, and the Rya shacket.
Do you do anything else related to sewing?
I teach beginner sewing, and introductory garment-making classes at RickRack Textiles. It is a beautiful local fabric store that specializes in garment textiles and notions.
What do you like about teaching?
So many things! It’s fantastic to see new students get excited once they’ve sewn something and realize the limitless possibilities of making whatever they want. It’s definitely empowering to make something with your own hands, especially when we’re surrounded by so many things that only exist online. I also enjoy sharing my knowledge, and love of sewing, with other people. It’s an amazing skill to have. The more people sew, the better!
