Style advice for the Giulia Dress

When selecting and composing your wardrobe, a good understanding of your body shape is key because that knowledge helps you:

  • select the right patterns and designs for you
  • know which fabrics and prints flatter your figure most

And obviously, the choice you make depends on your personal style (classic, sporty, etc.). However, some prints really do look better on you than others, a fact that's influenced by your body and face shape.

Select a print that’s proportionate to your height and posture.

Linear prints such as stripes, checks, graphic or geometric designs look great on you if your figure involves more straight lines. That means:

  • body shapes: I-types, V-types and H-types
  • faces: square, rectangular, triangular, or diamond-shaped  and straight eyebrows, mouth, nose, or cheekbones
  • hair structure: smooth or straight

Prints with soft forms, such as dots, polka dots, flowers or curved lines look great on you if your figure involves more curved lines. That means:

  • body shapes: O-types and 8-types
  • faces: round, oval, pear-shaped, and large round eyes, full lips, curved eyebrows, or round cheekbones
  • hair structure: curls

Does your silhouette (neat hourglasses and pears) include straight and curved lines? That means your print should also include a mix of straight lines and soft forms, such as paisley, certain floral prints, or abstract shapes.

The Giulia Dress for O-types

The O-type's goal is to create an elongated V shape across their figure. To do that, you need to create vertical lines and draw attention to the shoulders and face.

You look your loveliest in dresses that drape fluidly over your body and don’t focus on the waist. However, the Giulia dress does highlight your waist and the shaped sleeves add too much volume to your upper body. Neither feature does the apple any favours. For that reason, you should be sure to go for a fabric with a fluid drape that doesn’t billow too much. When it comes to texture and fabric selection, go as understated as possible. That is unless you really have your heart set on a print, in which case a watercolour motif would look pretty.

The side slits in the skirt allow space for showing off your lovely slender legs. That's an excellent reason for making the dress a touch shorter.

Extra tip: pair the dress with striking earrings to draw attention to your face.

The Giulia Dress for X- and 8-types

Highlighting your waist just that little bit extra works great on your body shape. And that means the Giulia’s elasticised waist is just what you're looking for! However, the shaped sleeves conceal your upper body too much. For that reason, you should make the dress in fabric with a fluid drape that nicely accentuates your natural curves. That could be a fine-knit, viscose jersey, or viscose crepe.

Feel free to make the dress a touch shorter to show off your slender legs.

The motto for X- and 8-types is simplicity is a virtue. Select fabric that’s as understated as possible and avoid busy prints. Full hourglasses intent on a print should pick something subtle with curved lines, such as tiny polka dots or itty-bitty flowers. Neat hourglasses should go for a print with a mix of straight and round shapes.

The Giulia Dress for V-types

Are you a V-type? Then you have athletic shoulders, and your figure gradually tapers towards the bottom. You don't have a clear waist.

Softening the shoulder line and making the torso less prominent are your objectives. The shaped sleeves and loose, billowy top look great on you. A word of warning, be sure to select a fabric with a fluid drape. The elastic gives you a waist and the flared flowing shape of the skirt adds just the right dose of volume and movement to your slender lower body. The result? a perfectly proportioned silhouette!

The Giulia Dress for A-types

Do you have an A-type silhouette? Then your centre of gravity is on your lower body and your torso is narrower. That's why you should focus all the attention on your upper body and soften the bottom half. Always subtly accentuate your waist.

The transition from the upper to lower body should be as subtle as possible so that you don’t overemphasise the difference in proportions. The elastic highlights your waistline nicely. At the same time, the skirt has the perfect A-line cut to glide gracefully over your hips. The side slits give the bottom an airy feel, which is precisely what your somewhat bulkier lower body could use.

Make the sleeves 3/4-length or shorter to keep the focus as high as possible.

Select a fabric with a fluid drape. A-types who mainly have angular features should go for a print with straight lines, e.g. stripes, checks, geometric shapes, etc. Pears with curves to spare should go for prints with soft, round shapes, such as dots, polka dots, flowers, watercolour patterns, etc. If your silhouette is a mix of the two, then be sure to include a mix of straight and soft lines in your print. Paisley, certain floral prints, or abstract shapes are all great options.

The Giulia Dress for I-types

You have a slender, athletic figure. Your challenge is to break up the ‘pencil’ shape and give your figure more body. The shaped sleeves and billowy top add volume to your upper body and help create the illusion of a slender waist. The elasticised waist and swishy skirt with side slits also contribute to creating more shape. As a result, the Giulia dress looks like a dream on you!

Make the Giulia dress in a patterned fabric to give your silhouette as much visual interest as possible. The more colour, the better!

Your angular body shape calls for a pattern with as many straight lines/shapes as possible (e.g. stripes, checks, geometric lines, etc.) or a playful mix of straight forms and flowers.

The Giulia Dress for H-types

Your upper and lower body are nicely balanced, but you do lack a waist. And that’s why your task is to create one! You want to break up that rectangle.

The elasticised waistline of the dress draws attention to the centre of the body and creates the illusion of a waist. Just that aspect gives more body to your figure. The loose sleeves also add volume to your torso.

The flowing, slightly flared skirt with side slits is a lovely counterbalance to the top and elegantly balances your proportions.

The Giulia looks lovely in a solid fabric, but you also can’t go wrong with a print with more angular forms (checks, stripes, geometric shapes, etc.), textured fabric, or something with an eye-catching detail.

Feel free to make the dress just a touch shorter to show off a little more of your legs. Discover a simple way to alter the dress length here.
