Conseil de style pour le top, la robe et le Boxy-top Josie

The Josie top is a lovely classic that has a whimsical touch to it thanks to the tightened section. The advantage to this top is that it offers so many different options. For example, you can make it shorter or make a beautiful A-line dress. If you’re small-busted, this top is really worth a try. But don’t worry – if you have a bigger bust, the Josie can be perfect for you too with just a few minor alterations. If you belong to this latter group, consider creating a V-shape, for example with a V-neck or pairing the top with an open cardigan or a long, thin necklace. We give you the low down with our tips for every body shape here!

The O-types

Keep in mind that the more (optical) vertical lines there are, the better your figure looks. Apples also don’t want to attract too much attention to the body's midsection. By applying just the right amount of both these tips, you can give your figure a more balanced look.

So how do you do it?

  • The standard Josie top emphasises your midsection, which is precisely what apples want to avoid. That’s why the Josie dress is a more flattering option for you (link). Your body shape is bound to look lovely in this A-line dress.
  • Alter the high neckline to a lower V-neckline. Or pair the dress with a V-neck cardigan, wearing both with an eye-catching necklace.
  • Draw the focus to your shoulders and face by wearing striking earrings.
  • Show off those gorgeous slender ankles with the outside world. Definitely be sure not to make the dress too long. You want those ankles to shine!
  • The idea is to create length at the same time. Go for a subtle print that diffuses focus across the dress, and for that reason avoid focus on any one part of your body.
  • Your body shape was born to wear wedges – so don’t miss out!

The H-types

The H-type has hips and shoulders that are more or less the same width. Your figure's proportions are, however, nicely balanced – which makes it important to keep things that way. The only thing missing is a clear waist.

So how do you do it?

  • You look best in tops that stop just under the hips. For that reason you should consider lengthening the Boxy top to the hips.
  • A fun alternative might also be to lengthen the top into a longer tunic. You should then tighten it a bit at the waist – to create more shape – and pair it with a pair of skinny jeans.
  • Your body shape also looks absolutely fabulous in the Josie dress.

The I-types

I-types have a very slim, straight figure that lacks a waist. That waist is precisely what we want to create.

So how do you do it?

  • Both the Josie top and the Boxy top are perfect for your body shape.
  • Play with prints – so jacquard? Yes please! Floral prints or stripes also look great,
  • and stiffer fabrics and those with a fluid drape are equally good options. Avoid thin, flimsy fabrics that drape blandly around your body. Instead, try to add a little structure.

The A-types

When it comes to A-types, the hips are the widest point of the body. That means that the shoulders are a good bit narrower in proportion. The challenge is to make your shoulders look wider than they actually are. That helps you shift the accent from your lower, to your upper body. And by complementing this with flowing lines that detract from the hip area, you'll bring your silhouette into perfect proportion.

So how do you do it?

  • Go for a fabric that has a lot of texture. That will help attract more attention to the upper body.
  • Consider this combo: top + cardigan + accessories.
  • Make sure that the Josie top stops right above the widest part of your hips.
  • Your body shape can’t go wrong with the Boxy top because it draws attention to your upper body.

The X- and 8-types

Both the X- and 8-types have a body that's naturally well-proportioned. Your shoulders and hips are more or less the same width and you have a clear waistline. Choose clothing styles that follow the your body's natural curves and highlight your waist as much as possible.

So how do you do it?

  • Tighten the Josie top at the waist with a belt.
  • Go for a fabric with a fluid drape, but that’s more voluminous.
  • The Boxy top and high-waisted trousers with straight or wide legs is a fab combo.
  • Go for a dark colour at the bottom so that all the attention is on the waist.

The V-types

V-types tend to be top-heavier. They have fairly wide shoulders and are busty; however, the lower body is narrower. The goal for your body shape is to create the illusion that your shoulders are more gently sloped. So you can make your silhouette more proportional by drawing attention away from the shoulders and deflecting it to the lower body.

So how do you do it?

  • The A-line Josie dress focusses on your lower body and helps balance out your silhouette.
  • If you’re bustier, make the neckline lower and pair the dress with an open blazer.
  • Tighten the Josie top at the waist to create more volume at the hips. That will nicely balance out with your broader shoulders.
  • When you make the Josie top, opt for a stiffer fabric.
  • The boxy top doesn’t really work well with your body shape.
