Long, longer, longest

Before we inundate you with specific styling advice for each type of figure, we’d first like to tell you about the length of a top versus your build. You can figure out the right length for you by keeping two elements in mind:

1. Horizontal proportions

When we say ‘horizontal proportions’, we mean the type of figure you have (A, X, V, etc.). Depending on your figure, we will look at which parts of your body to accentuate and, conversely, which ones to camouflage.

Did you know that the hem of a top creates a horizontal line on your body? A horizontal line makes you look wider, so it is best if the hem doesn’t fall at the widest part of your body. Would you like to balance out your figure more? Then strategically place the hem at the right point on your body.

Are your hips wider than your upper body? Then wear a top that stops at your hipbones.

Are your hips narrower than your upper body? Then wear a top that is slightly longer.

2. Vertical proportions

The ‘vertical proportions’ balance your upper and lower body. If you have short legs compared to your upper body, then it’s a good idea to tuck your top into your trousers or skirt (or wear a shorter top) to make your legs look longer. Conversely, leave your top untucked over your trousers or skirt (or wear a longer top) if you want to lengthen your upper body.
