Will you be heading out soon or this summer on a city trip somewhere in Europe? Then don’t forget to stop by one of the fabulous fashion exhibitions planned for 2019. The year kicked off with all kinds of gorgeous exhibitions, but hold onto your seats, because the rest of 2019 still has tons of great things in store for all the fashion lovers out there.

Wonder Women: strong women in fashion (13 April – 15 September 2019)

‘Who run the world?’ ‘Girls!’ The Hague is handing the Femme Fatales: strong women in fashion exhibition over to the Fashion Museum Hasselt (Modemuseum Hasselt), where it's being rechristened as Wonder Women. In this exhibition, all the starring roles are played by women. Think Coco Chanel, Diane Von Furstenberg, Mary Quant and Elsa Schiaperelli. Each of these women, and countless others besides, have had a huge impact on the fashion world and had a hand in shaping it into what it looks like today. And if the photos and reviews from The Hague are to be believed, it will definitely be an inspirational exhibition worth looking forward to.

Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams (2 February – 1 September 2019)

The gorgeous Christian Dior exhibition at London's Victoria & Albert Museum is definitely worth the trip. Not to mention that it’s also one of the best of 2019. Last summer, the exhibition attracted an impressive 700,000 people to Paris, so you can imagine that there was some serious queuing involved. The exhibition in London was also sold out online in no time at all – but not to worry! Every morning when the doors open there are a few tickets available, and due to its enormous success, the exhibition has been extended to 1 September. So, the moral of this story is ‘the early bird gets the worm’, or in this case – the tickets. Designer of Dreams takes you on a journey through the fashion house's development, from 1947 to the present day, with one-of-a-kind pieces and a décor better than any daydream.

Mary Quant (6 April 2019 – 16 February 2020)

The Josie Dress takes us all the way back to the ‘Swinging Sixties’. Want to know more? Right next to the Dior exhibition showing at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, there’s also currently a Mary Quant exhibition going on. She's known for being the inventor of the miniskirt and hotpants, but there’s more to Mary Quant than that. She’s a true representative of the powerful feminist wave of the 1960s. With over 200 unique pieces from her collection along with a few that have never been on display before – this exhibition is more than just a must.

Cutting fabrics, breaking borders (Upcoming)

Textiles with a story or that evoke a specific feeling. MoMu, the Antwerp Fashion Museum has an upcoming exhibition, cutting fabrics, breaking borders that's sure to deliver a unique take. The exhibition is a collaboration between journalist Samira Bendadi and photographer Mashid Mohadjerin. Due to MoMu's current renovation works, the precise date and location aren’t known yet. That it will take place in Flanders though is a sure thing.

Dos à la mode / Back Side: Fashion From Behind (5 July - 17 November 2020)

Previously in Brussels, coming soon to Paris... Back Side presents a selection of works that range from the 18th century to present day. What is it that makes the exhibition so special? This time around, it’s all about the back. How do we look at the back of clothing and perceive our back in general? From Margiela to Alaïa, you can take it all in at the Bourdelle Museum in Paris.

Body Beautiful: Diversity on the Catwalk (23 May – 20 October 2020)

In fashion, the ideal of beauty evolves, and that includes on the catwalk. For a few years now, every possible colour and size has made a comeback. Body Beautiful: Diversity on the Catwalk presents an ode to this evolution, including, among others, photographic work and campaigns. You can visit the exhibition at the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh.
