Style advice for the Lola Top

The Lola top’s hemline creates a horizontal line across your body, which makes the length you choose crucial. The best length depends on your horizontal proportions (your body shape) and your vertical proportions (leg length, torso, etc.).

Horizontal proportions

  • If you have wide hips (A-types, X- and 8-types), the top should end just above the widest part (around your hipbone).
  • If you have narrow hips (I-types, V-types and O-types), then the top can be worn somewhat longer (around your thighbone).

Vertical proportions

  • Have you got a long torso and short legs? Don’t make the top too long. That will help restore balance to your silhouette.
  • Have you got a short torso and long legs? Make the top a little longer. That way your torso will look longer too.

There are a few things to keep in mind with high neck tops:

1. They draw attention to the neck.
The Lola top looks gorgeous on any body shape with a long neck. Be sure to pair the top with a skirt or a pair of trousers, either a regular waist or high-waisted. That will nicely even out your vertical proportions.

The Lola may look divine on women with long necks, but that’s absolutely not the case for women with short necks or a double chin. Want to make your neck look longer? Wear your hair up and avoid accessories around the neck. That means no attention-grabbing earrings! They shrink the space between the head and shoulders and will end up making your neck look shorter.

2. They accentuate the bust.
The Lola top is flattering on body shapes that could do with a little more volume in the bust area (pears, slim rectangles, wide rectangles).

Body shapes with a full bust (apples, inverted triangles, neat and full hourglasses) look better in tops with lower, open necklines.

Tips for those for whom the Lola top isn’t an obvious choice:

  1. Make the top in a dark colour. Dark colours attract less attention.
  2. Choose a light-weight fabric, such as broderie anglaise (eyelet cotton).
  3. Make the top in a fabric with a fluid drape that drapes naturally across your body.
  4. Always make sure that your total look radiates balance. If the Lola top accentuates your upper body too much, then be sure to add eye-catching details to the bottom half – and vice versa.
