Style advice for the Debra Dress

The Debra dress for A-types

The hips are the widest part of an A-type’s body and the shoulders are proportionately narrower. The challenge? Properly accenting your torso to beautifully restore your figure’s proportions.
Definitely make the version with the V-neck at the back to draw the gaze up. The loose skirt will conceal your comparatively wider hips, which is an added bonus. The slanted darts break up the lower body, making it look narrower.

Always make sure your waistline gets the attention it needs. And that’s where things go a bit pear-shaped with Debra. In general, this dress conceals too much of your figure. You can fix that by choosing a sleeve length that draws attention to your waist.

Select a flowing fabric with a fluid drape.

The Debra dress for H-types

The H-type has hips and shoulders that are more or less the same widths. The only thing missing is a clear waistline. You can decide to disguise the lack of waist or create one.

The Debra’s straight cut cleverly conceals the lack of waist, and the darts create interest elsewhere. This dress keeps your proportions at the top and bottom nicely balanced. Feel free to make the dress just a touch shorter to show off your legs.

The Debra dress for I-types

I-types have a very slim, straight figure but lack curves. Consequently, the straight cut of the Debra doesn’t really do wonders for your body shape.

Your body shape begs for a little more schwung and curves. Dresses that will genuinely do your figure justice? There’s no shortage with the Rosie, Robyn, Rosalie, Joanne, Faye, Emilia, Karlene, Dora, Agatha, Mindy, Jane, and Elodie to choose from.

If you do make the Debra, be sure to go with a textured fabric, or something with a distinct, eye-catching pattern or a pop of colour. Avoid thin, flimsy fabrics that drape lifelessly over your body.

The Debra dress for O-types

O-types are interested in creating as many vertical lines as possible and drawing attention away from the midriff. Debra isn’t fitted and drapes loosely, which is ideal for flattering your figure; however, the horizontal seam over the stomach and the ruffles slightly overemphasise the waist.

Make Debra knee-length or slightly above the knee to showcase your legs. The fabric should have sufficient structure and body (vertical stripes are a good choice).

Wear the dress with a pair of dazzling earrings or add accessories to your outfit that will add or emphasise vertical lines across your body.
Knockout dresses for apples include: the Lexi, Jane (without a belt), Franca, Gusta, and Rosalie.

The Debra dress for V-types

Are you a V-type? Then you have athletic shoulders, and your figure gradually tapers towards the bottom. You don’t have a clear waist. Your job? Make your shoulders ‘uninteresting’ and highlight your lower body instead. The flare of the dress adds volume to your lower body, a nice counterweight to your broad shoulders.

And the minimalist neckline is perfect for discouraging too much focus on your upper body.

The simple cut of the sleeves works well on you. The ruffled skirt drapes loosely and fairly straight over your waist and hips, which balances your body’s proportions nicely.

The Debra dress for X-types and 8-types

Your shoulders and hips are more or less the same widths and you have a clear waistline, i.e. your body is naturally well proportioned.

The best garments are ones that follow your natural curves and accentuate your waist. The Debra doesn’t really emphasise your waist, which initially rules it out as a flattering dress for your figure. The Charlotte and Carole dresses, on the other hand, look amazing on you.
Plan on making the Debra anyway? Be sure to select a fabric with a fluid drape.
